We
haven't been back to Hunter Coutnry Club since 2004. After the
fire that leveled the clubhouse and the sale of the course, we didn't
play The Cragin in 2005. When we tried to come back in 2006, we
found the old course had been sold, and reduced to a nine hole walking
course with a trailer as the clubhouse. That may have brought
back memories of Columbus Park and playing 27 holes, walking every
single hole, but at our age, walking one hole might lead to cardiac
arrest for some of us and might jsut be damn impossible for the rest of
us.
Hunter's layout is like this now:

Interestingly, if you do one of those satellite maps from Google, you
can fine that the original 18 holes and greens are still there. I
think the only reason for not having all 18 is that the original
tractor mower is still stuck in the mud off the tenth hole and they
haven't figure out a way to cut the back nine yet. The old place
for golf is like any old course that we used to play when we were all
young and carefree. It just isn't, like us, the same
anymore. The course is still probably rock hard with small
greens that don't hold. But the price is still cheap.
And given this ad sent to us by Gregg Rossi, the place definitely won't be our Hunter after this year:

I am not sure where they got the idea of renaming the course to Stone
Oak, but it probably has something to do with the firmness of the
fairways and the numerous trees we used to hit with our balls.
