The above picture, sent ot us by Fingers Zielinski brings to mind several USGA rulings.
This situation falls under several appendices of USGA rules and
entitles the player a free drop no closer to the hole, not that the
players here have anything in mind closer than about two miles.
If this bear, however, shits in the woods, we have to wonder if the
fourth member of the above foursome (not pictured) was actually the
slowest player of the four.
Interestingly, Rule 23-1 considers dung to be a loose impediment which
can be removed if it interferes with a players swing. We don't
think these players want to remove anything but themselves from the
scene. Of course, they probably now have some loose impediments
in their pants which would definitely interfere with their swings.
Although there are none pictured above, we must assume that the hole
has several hazards such as bunkers in addition to large hairy hazards
to a golfer's life. Rule 23-1 also coverss dung in hazards, and
unfortunately for golfers, if a bear shits in a trap, it is not
considered a loose impediment. If a player's wayward mishit
causes his ball to become plugged in dung in a trap, thereby adhering
the dung to the ball, the player is not entitled to a drop or to remove
the dung. In other words, a player in a trap, his ball covered in
dung, he really is in deep shit trouble.
